Supply Chain Management and Sourcing

Typically 75% of a company's environmental impact comes from its supply base – a figure which rises for non-manufacturing companies. Therefore managing a corporate supply chain in a proactive and sustainable manner is absolutely fundamental to delivering real environmental, social and cost benefits and for minimising corporate risk (see also Human Rights and Bribery). An average expenditure analysis indicates that usually, companies tend to spend a comparatively large amount with just few suppliers. By prioritising these for action there is the potential for much benefit to be achieved in a relatively short space of time.

We have particular experience in working with clients on their participation in the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI), and advising on the benefits of sourcing through the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Fairtrade Foundation labelling schemes.

What we do

Sancroft works with companies to review their supply chains, identify where improvements can be made and how to achieve best practice. We can then work with the suppliers in question to address the issues at hand, and help achieve compliance with ethical or sustainable standards and labelling schemes.

Our aim is not to force changes in the supply base, but to ensure that the suppliers in question understand our client’s CR messages and work towards similar goals as much as possible. This helps to minimise the reputational risks brought upon companies by their supply chain and at the same time ensures the spread of CR benefits.
